version 1.00
To edit an existing map file, copy or rename the file as
"MAPFILE.TMP". For reasons of safety, MAPEDIT will *only* allow you to
edit, change, scrap, etc. MAPFILE.TMP. Execute MAPEDIT in the same
directory as MAPFILE.TMP.
MAPEDIT was not originally released with WarWorld because it is
almost too slow to be of any use. You may generate an entire world in
under 20 minutes on a 286/12, but obviously this is fairly unacceptable.
After MAPEDIT displays the map file (this alone takes too long, in
my opinion) then you may make changes. Pressing <F1> will display the
menu of options -- such as "r" to make a mountain-range, "w" to make a
river of water, "+" to begin placing land, etc.
When you have created and edited the perfect WarWorld map, press the
"Q"-key and save the map. If you place the MAPFILE.TMP in your WarWorld
directory and name it "MAPFILE.BAK", then WarWorld will use it as soon
as the current game resets.
It's not a good idea to change a map in the middle of a game.
Castles and villages could wind up in the middle of the ocean, or
trapped in a wide range of mountains. Instead of copying MAPFILE.TMP
over the current MAPFILE, better copy it over MAPFILE.BAK instead.
Thank you for your interest in WarWorld!
